    Responsibilities/ Job Description

    The Department of Digital Design and Information Studies offers a broad range of humanistic approaches to studying the relationship between humans and information technology, from the granular study of the agency of code to influencing policymaking in open and agile smart cities. Diverse and innovative methodologies are represented and encouraged in the department.

    We are looking for an applicant who does research on the aesthetic, communicational, social and cultural aspects of data and data management, and who has a strong background within the field of digital methods in relation to strategies for critically collecting, analysing and interpreting both small and large datasets in the research of digitally saturated contexts.

    In sum, we are looking for an innovative and dedicated applicant who will enhance the research and teaching profiles of the department nationally and internationally as well as contributing to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, teaching and supervision, talent development and knowledge exchange.

    Teaching and supervision

    We are looking for applicants with teaching and supervision experience in the field of critical data studies and digital methods at university level.

    The successful applicant will be expected to take part in the department’s teaching and supervision activities and to teach and supervise on the department’s Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degree programmes, in particular: the Bachelor’s degree programme in information studies, the Bachelor’s supplementary degree programme in critical data studies and the Master’s degree programme in information studies. Please indicate in your application which courses you could teach. The successful applicant will also be expected to apply innovative teaching methods.

    The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of curricula and the degree programmes within the fields of digital design and information studies, and in this connection experience of degree programme and curriculum development at universities or similar institutions will be an advantage.

    Given the international focus of the degree programmes, the successful applicant will be expected to teach in English as well as Danish.

    Research

    The Department of Digital Design and Information Studies at Aarhus University has a pronounced and significant international profile and a robust research network. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary department with flourishing areas of research in interaction design, participatory design, innovation, critical data studies, science-technology-society studies and digital aesthetics and culture.

    We are looking for an applicant who researches the aesthetic, communicational, social and cultural aspects of data and data management and who has a strong profile and track record in the study of methodologies, tools or frameworks related to several of the following areas:

    • the use of online and digital technologies to collect and analyse research data
    • new methods for managing, collecting and presenting data, e.g. data visualisations
    • critical analysis of the culture, use and design of digital technologies for data-driven research
    • text analysis/content analysis/text mining

    The successful applicant will be expected to take a role in developing research in the field of critical data studies and digital methods. They will also be expected to publish original peer-reviewed research internationally as well as making scholarly contributions to developments within the field. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to research initiatives in relation to both the field of critical data studies and digital methods and the research community at the department in terms of new collaborative research projects with internal and external partners, and in connection with external research funding.
